Matthew Leong
Class of 2019
Matt Leong is a professional soccer player for New York City FC. Originally from New Jersey, he completed part of his high school education at AESA, taking advantage of AESA’s flexible academic model to balance school with his athletic career.
He chose Columbia University for its academic excellence and prime location in New York City, where he could continue developing as both a scholar and an athlete. While earning his degree in Financial Economics, Matt also competed as a collegiate soccer player.
“AESA’s flexible, hybrid format helped me develop strong time management and self-discipline, which were crucial for juggling a busy academic schedule with the demands of college soccer. The experience gave me the independence and adaptability I needed to excel both on the field and in the classroom at Columbia, and now as a pro soccer player.”

Lucas Singletary
Class of 2023
Lucas Singletary is a football player and a graduate of AESA, where he studied from 2019 to 2023. Thanks to AESA’s flexible academic model, he was able to balance rigorous coursework with his training and match schedule.
He is currently enrolled in the Business Administration program at ESADE Business School in Barcelona, one of Europe’s top universities, where he’s gaining the skills needed to build a career in the sports business industry.
“AESA has helped me through my journey by showing me how to time properly based on different workloads. That has been crucial for me this year since I am taking on two schedules at once, my university schedule and my football schedule. Therefore, a good level of time management has benefited me a lot so far.”
